Development and Realisation – a new unit was introduced to us today by Garrett Lynch. The Main Unit aim is to teach us how to communicate visually through different media forms such as posters. During this six week Unit we will also develop some technical skills by using different software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesingn and InkScape.
The assignment work is split into two parts. The first part is Design Analysis. For this particular part of the assignment we have to update our blogs with the research, development of ideas and the progress that we are making towards our second part of our assignment which is Production work – Communication Design A2 Poster.
Production work – Communication Design A2 Poster is the main part of our assignment and consists 80% of the overall unit grade.
The following unit Learning Outcomes will be assessed in this assignment:
An ability to select and demonstrate appropriate skills to develop and realise professional digital design artefacts, which make creative use of a variety of media.
An ability to work both individually and collaboratively and to demonstrate a responsible and informed approach to group design work.
An ability to specify and produce appropriately designed artefacts for a defined user within a given context.
In the Assignment brief we are given subjects to choose from. By choosing a subject we have to think how we will communicate the idea of the subject visually and a set of data about it. The Following subjects are:
Where have you been and when?
What is your social network?
How many documented meteor impacts have there been?
Who lives the longest?
What is the fattest country?
Where do different genders shop online?
Who knows each other and how in Star Wars?
What type of music is the most popular?
Who has the largest carbon footprint?
How does the hydrologic cycle (also called the water cycle) work?
Looked at the subjects given to us, after some consideration, I think I will pick the “who has the largest carbon footprint?” subject. I am considering to take this subject as I have an interest in this long lasting issue in the world and have contributed some research in the past. I believe that research done in the past will help me to develop ideas for my poster. For this particular subject I will have to find out data and visualise it of a group of countries (or all countries) CO2 emission.
Here are some examples of the poster and infographics created by others:
